The longer you work in PR, the more you realise how much there is still left to learn…
Public relations has been the focus of my professional life ever since cutting my teeth as an NHS trainee many moons ago. Over thirteen years working in various sectors, ranging from tourism and conservation to local government and health, has shaped my thinking and perspective on all things comms. See my Experience page.
I’m currently teach future PR practitioners and Social Media Managers, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, on a variety of different subjects at University of Sunderland in North East England, as well as Integrated Foundation Year.
There’s lots of work to be done in bridging the gap between theory and practice, something I’m really passionate about. I am particularly keen to see more PR models and tools developed from female and public sector perspectives.
I was a finalist in the European Public Relations Education and Research Association‘s 2022 research awards, for my work on the use of stakeholder theory in the local public sector. Read more here. This was part of my own Masters Degree in Corporate Communications (2021, Distinction) from Leeds Beckett University . I have written an article on this research, which was published by Corporate Communications: An International Journal in September 2025.. I am currently working with a colleague on a research project to explore how women PR practitioners feel about, and experience, building a personal digital brand.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a Fellow of AdvancedHE. I have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.
See LinkedIn page for more about my PR journey.
